About Therapy
“Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.” – Joseph Campbell
Therapy, sometimes called ‘talk therapy’ or ‘psychotherapy’, involves identifying patterns of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are holding you back in your growth. Problems differ from one person to another. Maybe you are depressed and have had thoughts of suicide, or perhaps you feel overwhelming stress every time you go to work. You might be trying to figure out why you always attract an abusive partner, or maybe you’re facing retirement and have no idea who you are or what you want in life. Your life is unique to you – and so are the challenges that come with it.
There is no problem that can’t be made better in some way. This is where therapy comes in. A good therapist will take the time to create a safe space for you to explore what’s got you stuck. Sometimes it’s a brief process and you may need just a few sessions, and sometimes you may need support for much longer. For most people, it’s somewhere in between (10-15 sessions). Regardless, the therapist’s role is to understand your view while guiding you towards change. Therapy may be uncomfortable at times but with a trusted professional it is possible to find ways to live a happier, more fulfilling life. Help is available.
I use evidenced-based approaches and am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness techniques. I focus on personalizing your care to find what might help you the most.
